SMICMUN VII Secretariats

Aaron Huang
SECRETARY GENERAL
Hi. I'm Aaron Huang, your secretary general this year. Welcome to SMICMUN VII - Ad Infinitum. Rather than bore you with the usual talk about how great MUN is for nourishing critical thinking or what not, I'm going to tell you what MUN is really about: friends. Looking back at my four years long MUN career, it's not the resolutions I've written that I remember, but rather the people who were there to collaborate, debate, and laugh. It's the quirky people, the delegate of the USA who spoke with a British accent, the delegate of Norway who insisted that their country holds secret elections that only he knows, and the delegate of North Korea who only knew the word "nuclear."
At SMICMUN VII, I hope you will meet your quirky guy, and be someone else's quirky guy.
Welcome to SMICMUN VII!

Junzhe Koh
DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL
Bearing in mind the theme of Ad Infinitum–an ode to humanity's perseverance,
Warmly welcoming all that have graciously worked on their resolutions, reports, and speeches (hopefully!)
Greetings! I am JunZhe Koh, and I am more than honored to serve as your Deputy Secretary General for SMICMUN VII. Today, our world is emerging from a global pandemic that has cost millions of lives with untold impacts on economies around the world. Adding to this gloomy mix the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the ongoing climate emergency, it is difficult not to despair at the dystopian legacy that is being bequeathed to us.
But from my years in MUN, I noticed a generation fearless and energized by the challenges that lie ahead. Through passionate debates and consensus-building, I see an opportunity to restore our fractured but not broken worlds.
Welcome to SMICMUN VII.

Katherine Lu
DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL
Hello! My name is Katherine Lu, I will be serving as your Deputy Secretary General this year. As a senior that is graduating in a few months, I still remember my first MUN conference vividly—and I hope that this can be one of those conferences. The theme for this year, Ad Infinitum, stands for infinity, a journey without limit. The secretariat team chose this theme because after the long past three years, we want to see the energetic thrive of intellectual conversations, a comfortable place of debate without limit. To both discuss the pressing issues of our times and the future of our world.
Welcome to SMICMUN VII!

Haowen Tan
DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL
Hi, I am Haowen Tan, and I will be serving as your Deputy Secretary General. I am currently a senior in Shanghai SMIC Private School, and this is my 4th year participating in SMICMUN program. I enjoy chairing for different conferences on a variety of issues. I am interested in global politics, and I always follow recent news across the world. I hope that SMICMUN will be a wonderful experience for the delegates and produce fruitful debates.
Welcome to SMICMUN VII!

IHyeon Rha
UNDERSECRETARY GENERAL OF PUBLIC LIAISON
Hi, my name is IHyeon Rha, and I will be your Undersecretary General of Public Liaison for SMICMUN VII. I am beyond thrilled to be part of this amazing Secretariat Team and to bring to you a great MUN conference. I still remember my first SMICMUN conference from two years ago, when I was still a baby MUNer, eager to protect the rights of Afghan women in the Human Rights Council. It has been heartwarming to see what once only had SMIC students quickly blossom into a conference uniting nations from all over Asia. I hope that by the end of this conference, you will be able to convince people to pass amendments, resolutions, and make new friends. Most of all, I hope that SMICMUN will be a conference you will truly cherish throughout the years and find yourselves in-person next year.
Welcome to SMICMUN VII!

Grace Hou
UNDERSECRETARY GENERAL OF CONFERENCE AFFAIRS
Hello MUNers! I am Grace Hou, and I will be serving as your Undersecretary General of Conference Affairs this year. Welcome to SMICMUN VII – Ad Infinitum. I am proud to introduce this conference to you along with our incredible secretariat team. It is a pleasure to see MUN conferences all around finally reanimating their programs after a forced hiatus due to the coronavirus, and SMIC is more than honored to host one of them. In SMICMUN VII, delegates would be resolving issues ranging from Nuclear Non-proliferation to the instability in Myanmar, from the Korean conflict during the Cold War to the Kurdish Conflict that still exists today, alongside various other notable issues. I am excited to see your fruitful discussions and amazing resolutions on these topics. Needless to say, this conference would certainly be an unforgettable experience for all of you. Altogether, I look forward to meeting you all!
Welcome to SMICMUN VII!

Stephanie Liu
UNDERSECRETARY GENERAL OF DIGITAL AFFAIRS
An assignment due at midnight, a test tomorrow, a family dinner, then upcoming competitions… In the little bubble that is our everyday lives, the to-dos always appear to come one after another, never-ending. Zooming out from our main-character complexes to the bigger picture, the world seemed to be stuck in a similar loop, where problematic events followed one another quicker than the Twitter Homepage can refresh.
Hi, I'm Stephanie Liu, your Undersecretary General of Digital Affairs for this year. While the issues don't stop comin', MUNers have not backed down from the prospect of an unruly future. In every event, committee, and delegate, there can be seen a shared determination to fight and resist what may seem inevitable.
No matter if it alights your first spark of passion, adds to flaring flame, or just makes you more interested in reading the news once in a while, I hope everyone has a fruitful experience here at SMICMUN VII — Ad Infinitum.
Welcome to SMICMUN VII!
